PURPOSE: Approval for grant application for 2024 US DOJ “Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Program”
BACKGROUND: *The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Program, created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, is a unique US DOJ initiative administered by the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). *This program is designed to help provide a critical resource to states, counties, federally recognized tribes, cities and local jurisdictions. *The purpose of the BVP Program is to reimburse law enforcement agencies up to 50 percent of the cost of body armor vests purchased for law enforcement officers. *Although funding is rarely awarded at a level that matches our agencies needs partially funding would offset the cost. *The Sheriff’s Office is requesting Executive approval to apply for the Bulletproof Vest Grant in the amount $80,966.30.
