DEPARTMENT: Facilities and Fleet Management
ORIGINATOR: Lance Meinhold
EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Approved
PURPOSE: To obtain Executive approval of Change Order 38 to Marpac Construction.
BACKGROUND: The County and Marpac Construction entered into an agreement on December 18th, 2024, for the construction phase of the New Start Center of Everett. Upon restarting the water service to the back building, it was discovered the sanitary sewer line has become blocked. This is not unexpected for a building of this age which has not been in service for an extended period of time, however the condition was not confirmed until the domestic water flow was restored. The contractor will clear the lines. The previously approved change order to repair the broken toilets came without a warranty on the repairs. The initial proposal for replacing the toilets was over $60,000 before the contractors mark-ups. The plumber decided to meet us in the middle with the pricing, so we get all new toilets with warranties for around $25,000 less than their initial asking price. The Outdoor Air Processing (OAP) units in the resident laundry rooms have been hung as tightly to the existing ceiling as possible. However, they are still below the required height for head clearance. After exploring several options, the option having the least expense and impact to the schedule is to provide fencing under the units and rearrange the layout of the laundry equipment.
