ITEM TITLE:
Title
Authorizing the Executive to sign of Change Order CO-18 to Bid PW-24-027SB for the Construction at the New Start Center of Everett with Marpac Construction LLC.
body
DEPARTMENT: Facilities and Fleet Management

ORIGINATOR: Lance Meinhold

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Approved

PURPOSE: To obtain Executive approval of Change Order 18 to Marpac Construction.

BACKGROUND: The County and Marpac Construction entered into an agreement on December 18th, 2024, for the construction phase of the New Start Center of Everett. Upon removal of the lighting fixtures in the common spaces, the electrician discovered none of the existing lighting provides general lighting during a power outage. This emergency egress lighting is required by code. The change order provides general lighting by changing the exit sign lights to a style that includes general lighting. The city of Everett building inspector has made a field decision to require the electrical system to be grounded to the fire suppression system in addition to the cold-water domestic piping. This is an addition safeguard for the electrical system. The city plan review, field inspections, and design changes have required changes to the exterior door hardware, which includes ever resident room door. After removal of the shower/tub surrounds, it has been discovered over three quarters of the shower valves are from the original 1967 construction. These valves are well past their expected useful life. The plumbers will repair and replace the valves based on actual time and materials used with a not to exceed amount of $50,000.00.
