body

ORIGINATOR: Tonya Watson

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Approved

PURPOSE: We understand Snohomish County, Paine Field Airport is seeking to review and study the existing fire suppression system at the Airport's IAC Building. According to Snohomish County Records, the IAC Building is a 52,000 square-foot single-story Type V-N structure, constructed in 1987. Sprinkler protection appears to involve a wallmounted FDC and PIV between Suites K and L. Multiple tenants are present in the building, occupying Suites A through T/U, including a distillery, urgent care, and plastic and metal cutting, milling, and manufacturing, among others. The current systems in place may not be code-compliant for the storage of up to 480 gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) inside Suites N/O at the IAC Building. If fire suppression upgrades are required, it is also not known if the entire building will need to be upgraded or just Suites N/O. Additionally, it must be determined what the fire suppression requirements are if exhaust hoods are employed. Collaboration with Paine Field Fire will be a requirement of this project. Project would be based on provisions of the 2021 IEBC and IFC (International Existing Building and Fire Codes, respectively, as adopted and amended by State of Washington, Snohomish County, and Paine Field Airport), NFPA standards, and local fire and safety regulations specific to PAE and Snohomish County, as applicable to Project.
