ITEM TITLE:

Title

Motion 24-157, referring proposed code amendments to revise regulations for Day Care Centers to the Department of Planning and Development Services and the Snohomish County Planning Commission

body

DEPARTMENT:  Council

ORIGINATOR:  Ryan Countryman for CM Mead and CM Nehring

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  TBD

PURPOSE: This motion requests review and recommendation on code amendment related to day care centers that are co-sponsored by Councilmembers Mead and Nehring.

BACKGROUND: Snohomish County suffers from a severe shortage of childcare options. A combination of zoning requirements and market competition for sites with appropriate zoning make it difficult for providers to find sites for new day care center locations. Day care centers are those that provide care for 13 or more children. The proposed ordinance would allow day care centers in more locations and simplify permitting requirements.
